HOW IT ALL BEGAN...

Crate was established in 2012: the Olympics were in full swing just over the canal, and Hackney Wick was changing fast.

Before we made The White Building our home, it had a colourful past as a print factory and a squat. Crate's canal-side bar and restaurant was built with the help of the local creative community. The result? A space full of up-cycled pallets, bed-springs and railway sleepers – and one that perfectly reflects the creative ethos in the area.


Our consistent, high quality core range of beers are now brewed with our partners at Purity Brewing, on one of the world's most sustainable brew kits. Alongside the full Crate range, there are rotating guest lines, showcasing the best of the craft beer world, plus fridges packed with handpicked gems.

As well as being home to Crate Bar and Pizzeria, our renovated warehouse is home to resident artists and Silo, the Michelin Stared Zero-waste restaurant.

Ground Floor

Crate occupies the whole ground floor of the building. Find your spot by the River Lea and enjoy a fresh beer and fresh pizza.

Heading to the London Stadium, East Bank or Abba Arena? Crate is the place to eat - conveniently located next to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic park.

1st Floor

Our passion for exceptional and innovative food led to an introduction to Douglas McMaster. Crate partnered with Douglas to open Silo London: the world's first zero waste restaurant. Working on the principles of a pre-industrial food system, Silo trades directly with farmers and producers, and upcycle or compost all excess waste, operating without a bin.

Since opening in 2019, the restaurant has gained multiple awards and accolades including a Michelin Green Star, and a top 50 spot in the National Restaurant Awards.

2nd Floor

Second generation potter Mark Ciavola runs private classes in throwing, hand building and kitsugi, as well as as recently launching a project creating 'glass porcelain' from single use glass consumed within the building.
